Initial Comment:
When trying to copy a file from a USB drive to a WIN2008 with SP2 or WIN2008R2 the copy always fails. So it's impossible to use USB drives in units connecting through rdesktop.

I've just finished rebuilding my Thinstation from scratch (I was using
TS-o-matic before) 
and now I can create/delete files anywhere on my USB key !

It looks like a bug I fixed in FreeRDP. IIRC, the code has trouble doing
path concatenations and end up with wrong file paths, except for paths
starting from the root. If anybody wants to port the patch to rdesktop, you
are welcome. Here are the files I modified:

Look at the diff's for what I had to change. Not everything in the changes
I've done are related to that bug, however, so look at the commits that

it only works in the root of the drive.

It works for only in the roor of the pen drive. If you try to write to a
folder it seems to have the problem. Can you confirm please ?

I had this problem and could get USB working by changing the path for the
redirection. 
For exemple, I was using -r USB=/mnt/usbdevice
I changed it to -r USB=/mnt/usbdevice/sda1
