Licence files and write-access

Hello! I've got a question concerning license files that are stored on the client: When a licence expires and then gets renewed by the server, is it neccesary for rdesktop to have write access on the license file or is the renewal just taking place on the server and the license file stays the same? I'm asking because I'm trying to build a thin client that has a read only disk and I want to prevent problems after 90 days, when the licence has to be renewed.
