Audio issues when connected to Virtual Machines

Hello all, I tried to play an audio clip through rdesktop session, connected to windows XP running inside a Virtual Machine. Audio is not streamed continuously. There are breaks in the playback at regular intervals. Is this a known issue? Is there a solution in the offing? If rdesktop is connected to an XP running on bare metal, audio works flawless.
