rdesktop freezes entire desktop (until I kill it)

(Probably not related to rdesktop, but on my remote side via rdesktop when I try to get to a vmware console the connection always hangs. Some networking issue as I can't even ping then.) So back to rdesktop -- it is hanging (due to now broken networking). Sometimes I can't kill rdesktop with Ctrl-C at the xterm I started it at and can't close it with the window manager. Soon my other xterms get frozen -- can't type in them. And then about 30 seconds later my window manager itself is frozen -- I can no longer drag windows nor open any menus. So I ssh into the system, kill rdesktop, and then my desktop is usable again. I have had this problem off-and-on probably 20 times over the past six months. I don't know what versions of rdesktop I used all during that time. (Note that it doesn't always fail as I use rdesktop maybe hundreds of times fine during same time.) I am currently using rdesktop-1.5.0 on NetBSD. What in rdesktop can make my entire X temporarily fail (until I kill rdesktop)? My X is xorg server 1.3.0.0 using xf86-video-vesa-1.3.0. My window manager is jwm v1.8 (but I also had same problem with newer jwm, like 2.0.1). I tried to ktrace the hung rdesktop process, but that didn't get in details. Jeremy C.
