rdesktop times out?

My home PC can dual-boot into Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux. Then
from Win XP I can VPN to where I work, and use remote desktop to see my
PC at work.
>From Linux I run rdesktop and see this:
$ rdesktop -u syarbrough -d (DOMAIN) (IP ADDRESS)
Autoselected keyboard map en-us
ERROR: connect: Connection timed out
I blocked out parts of the rdesktop command for this email. The (IP
ADDRESS) of my office's VPN gateway (or whatever that is called)
doesn't answer pings for security reasons, but it's on the public
internet and I can see the internet fine from Linux. My home
networking setup isn't very fancy. A NAT network behind a single IP.
Can anyone give me any suggestions? I don't know much about VPN setups
and I've never used rdesktop before, meaning I could be missing
something really basic. I do know about networking and routing in
general.
Thanks
