rdesktop 1.6 crashes ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid) how to build 1.5

Hi,

I have Ubuntu 8.10 installed on a Dell E6500. I make a vpn connection to
my work and then start rdesktop. Rdesktop starts and gives me a login
screen. I login and the majority of desktop is drawn and then the remote
mouse freezes and after about 30 secs the fan on the laptop speeds up
and then the whole system crashes (basically turns off).

I have used rdeskop for several years on both Suse and more recently
Ubuntu 8.04. On 8.04 I have rdesktop 1.5 installed and it works great.

Since I do not know the problem I thought I would try to use rdesktop1.5
which is not on Ubuntu 8.10 so I downloaded the source and tried to
build it. I have not built much under linux. I downloaded the source and
tried:

./configure

which produced

Couldn't find your OpenSSL library installation dir
Use --with-openssl option to fix this problem

I tried

./configure --with-openssl

which generated the same message.

(Note openssl is installed according to package manager)

Could someone explain what I need to do or perhaps point me to a .deb
for rdesktop1.5. Sorry for my lack of knowledge on how to do this.

Thanks, Simon
