If I take your question at its most fundemental, then I should direct you to
the man pages:
$ man rdesktop
Which state:
-a <bpp>
Sets the colour depth for the connection (8, 15, 16 or 24).
More than 8 bpp are only supported when connecting to Windows XP
(up to 16 bpp) or newer. Note that the colour depth may also be
limited by the server configuration. The default value is the
depth of the root window.
I.e. use "rdesktop -a 24".
If, however, you've already tried that and if you're connecting to Windows
Terminal Services, then you first enable it on the Windows server, I think in
Windows Terminal Configurator or something like that. I think it restricts
remote desktop clients to 16-bit colour by default.
