Hello, I am glad to announce that the SILC will be included in the official Gaim 0.78 release. The SILC Gaim plugin code will appear in the Gaim CVS today or tomorrow or in days to come. I hope that there would be at least few people getting the current Gaim CVS version out and then testing it to make sure that for the most parts it works before the Gaim 0.78 is released. The file transfer currently may cause a crash, but this is not because of the Gaim but because of the SILC Toolkit 0.9.12. Other things should work fine. One thing we need to do before Gaim 0.78 comes out and it is to come up with an icon (actually few different icons) for the SILC protocol in the Gaim. I would hope that someone reading this list would come up in the next few days or during next week with some kind of icons. Otherwise I have to use my artistics skill again, and that may not be the best result. :) As for future development goes, we haven't yet figured out all the details with Gaim folks. For the most simple stuff like API changes in the Gaim, the Gaim developers will keep the SILC code up to date. For bugfixes it is suggested to simply submit them to the Gaim patch submission system. For more intrusive patches, like those that add new features or change functionality the same patch submission is probably the best way to go, but with first discussion about it either on silc-devel or gaim-devel mailig lists. For these kind of patches I most likely Ok them or ask for changes before they can be commited to the Gaim. It is also possible that someone, other than myself, from SILC Community will take the leading role in the SILC development in Gaim in the future. Such person or group is more than welcome to show up. :) In that case, that person will then Ok or Not Ok the patches for SILC in Gaim. Nevertheless, there has to be someone in "our" side deciding what changes are Ok and which are not, as Gaim developers don't have the time or ability to make such decisions. Gaim folks also wish that someone would be a real-time liason on #gaim at irc.freenode.net between SILC project and Gaim project. I don't always have time or ability to be online, not to mention I haven't been on IRC since 1999. :) We shall see how we handle this one. As for practical stuff that people could contribute to the SILC Gaim I can mention for example that the MIME message sending and receiving hasn't been implemented yet. Some other features like invite and ban list handling is also missing. I'm sure people will find out other missing features once they start using it, and bunch of nasty bugs that I'm sure are lurking there. All contributions are greatly appreciated and impatiently awaited. The best way to get your contribution in the Gaim is to submit it via the Gaim submission system that is set up in gaim.sourceforge.net site. And then just chatting.
