Hey Paul,
By default you don't need anything more than an Account created in
GAIM. Specify the Screen Name, Server and port and you should be able
to connect to the server. However, the server admin can create some
restrictions on the server side, such as a server password or client
profiles that can match incoming connections based on Host/IP and
require specific PublicKeys, etc.
