You would normally use the Debian package system to build the package if
you are using Debian, ie.
apt-get source slrn
apt-get build-dep slrn
debuild binary
etc. If you are not using Debian, I don't understand why you would be
downloading from the ftp site. Any reason why you are not doing this?
