slrn 0.9.9 release plans (was Re: score-color patch and 0.99x slrn)

I think that it is more important to release 1.0 sooner than later.
The last official release was 0.9.8.1 back in 2004.  That version does
not support slang-2, and for that reason, various software
distributions (e.g., debian), are distributing the CVS version.
Unfortunately, the version from CVS was never of release quality,
which is why I believe Thomas never released it.  You can see evidence
of this from, e.g., the debian changelog file for slrn_0.9.8.1pl1-28. 

As I stated in another email, I believe that with the exception of
slrnpull, pre0.9.9-30 appears to be extremely stable with, from what I
can see, no issues with respect to character-set handling.  My plan is
to release 0.9.9 before the end of the year, fix any additional bugs
that may arise in that release, and then finally release 1.0.  With
1.0 released, work can begin on 2.0 where sweeping changes can be
made, such as discarding the current format of the .slrnrc file.

So, if you haven't aready done so, I encourage you download and start
testing the latest version that is in the svn repository.  And of
course report any bugs that you experience.  One of the areas that I
feel needs more testing is the native language support.
