MIME support

Hi,

I would like to talk about MIME support. I've got a request to add a
patch [1] to Debian's slrn package. A bug report [2] asking for MIME
support is pending since 2006.

I don't like to add this patch, if it doesn't go upstream, because it's
not a bug fix, but an addon. Hence, I would like to hear opinions,
especially John's, what should happen with MIME support and if the
referenced patch is suitable.

Speaking for myself I don't like the idea to add MIME support in the C
code. I would much more prefer a S‐Lang implementation of MIME, because
it would be more flexible (support for GPG signed messages can be added
much easier) and jed and other S‐Lang applications can profit from this.
More generally said, slrn should become a core written in C of important
functions and everything else should be a S‐Lang macros.
