slrnpull continuously disconnecting

Trying to pull in from usenet the news group sci.electronics.design,
slrnpull consistently at a certain posting disconnects like this:

Is it the dot ('.') in the penultimate line that makes slrnpull think
there's a header coming, making it panic and disconnect when there is
none?

I've looked up RFC 822, RFC 850 and RFC 1036, but nowhere I've seen the
dot ('.') appear as a control character.

So why does slrnpull disconnect when it encounters a single dot with no
header following?
