I just tried running sn on ReiserFS, and it worked without problems. The
server in question is Red Hat-based, and runs a customized 2.2.16 kernel.
The ReiserFS version is 3.5.24, according to someone who ought to know.

Could you perhaps create a test spool on an ext2fs-partition, and see
if the patched sn works there?

Well, it's _possible_ but probably not very useful, IMHO... The other
changes are so small that I would be quite surprised if they didn't work. :)
