My RSS reader is a caching proxy... This bothered me too. I'm behind an ISP's transparent proxy and share it with several thousand people. This already causes me problems with Slashdot when they accuse my IP of DOSing them with RSS requests. I also tried accessing an RSS feed supplied via normally with etag and Gzip. Rsscache then served it to me with no etag and in plain. So far I haven't been able to see any of their speedups apart from them making one call to the host and then serving out to multiple clients. It's really very hard to see how they can add anything without simply sucking up bandwidth and the associated costs.
