Think of email attachments. Following your logic: anything that can be
attached to email can also be uploaded to somewhere and links being put to
email body. But having files attached is simply more convinient.

Here's the same. Why limit yourself with only media files?

But, if you still want to hear use cases, here're mine:
1) Acme Company 'attaches' PDF whitepapers to their summary in RSS feed.
2) A collaboration tool can publish new or updated documents using
enclosures.

Just to name a few.
