The fact that you can be so bold in your assertion that the feed is valid,
suggests that you have no idea what the real issue is.
There is a well-formedness constraint that the DTD may be violating. If the
XML is not well-formed then the feed is not valid. You can argue that the
constraint doesn't apply in this particular case, but it's far from clear.

Geez, don't take everything so seriously. This wasn't meant to be some kind
of criticism of Atom. It was just a joke feed which I thought was kind of
fun. It also turned out to be interesting because it brought to light a
difference of opinion in how parsers interpret the XML spec.

The issue isn't XML parsers that don't parse DTD subsets. As I said above,
it's a well-formedness constraint that is being disputed.

You're confusing the IE XML parser and the IE7 feed parser. The IE XML
parser (which is essentially part of Windows) does support DTD subsets - it
just doesn't support this particular example because of the well-formedness
constraint.
