On my classroom machines, I generally install the xfce desktop, and have the vnc use that instead of the gnome3 desktop. Some of the fancy things cause problems. You modify the .vnc/xstartup file to look like this. #!/bin/sh # Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop: unset SESSION_MANAGER unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS exec /bin/sh /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc # X11/xinit/xinitrc [ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup [ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources xsetroot -solid grey #vncconfig -iconic & xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" & startxfce4 & #twm & On 2 Sep 2016 at 12:32, Jeff Smith wrote: From: Jeff Smith <[email protected]> Date sent: Fri, 2 Sep 2016 12:32:18 -0400 Subject: Re: hard to get past 1st screen To: "Michael D.
