xtightvnc client and plain pam authentication

Hi, I'm running xtightvncserver with pam authentication. When I'm trying to connect using xtightvncviewer, I get the message 'Server did not offer supported security type'. If I connect using vncviewer, I'm able to connect using username and password but I get a black screen. Please note that I'm able to connect using xtightvncviewer without pam authentication. Does this mean that xtightvncviewer doesn't support plain login using username/password?
