without looking at the code: yes

yes (they might be highlighted if tin knows thier message-id)

???

if your newsserver responses with a message-id in the 340er response to post
tin is able to parse that and rember that id, if your server does not
respond with an ID in the initial POST response tin doesn't know the id.
in the case tin knows about the id all postings should be added to your
filter file, in the case where tin does not know about the id only thread
starters are added (to avoid gazillions of false positives).

p.s.: I never used that feature and I didn't check the code
