How would tin know about them when they haven't been posted yet?

I haven't looked at the code myself yet either, but I expected it
work somehow by inspecting the references headers and recognizing
own posts, maybe by comparing to "posted".

Hmm... I wouldn't expect my news-server to change behaviour since
tin still reports MIDs and records them in "posted".

I'll have to re-read this paragraph later when I had more sleep, at
the moment this confuses me as much as your 1st reply. ;)
(and have a look at the code, too)
