without showing your tinrc and filter file this is hard to say, my first
guess is that you have

add_posted_to_filter=ON

in your tinrc and thus the killrule and the automatic hot rule will override
each other and the article is shown as unread like any other article.

no - the killfile doesn't check your own address, killing own articles works
like killing other articles.

some other (automatic generated) rule(s) cancel the kill flag (score below
-50)
