Every article has a uniq identifier: its Messsage-ID and if the article
belongs to a "thread" it has at least one parent whose Message-ID
should be noted in the References: line. The References header can
hold multiple identifiers of parents in chronological order.

tin can filter on the following 

msgid=pattern       Message-Id: *AND* full References:
-> matches the current article or any of it's precursor in the thread

msgid_last=pattern  Message-Id: and last Reference:s entry only
-> matches the current article or it's direct precursor in the thread

msgid_only=pattern  Message-Id:
-> matches only the current article

refs_only=pattern   References: line (e.g. <[email protected]>) without Message-Id:
-> matches only any precursor in the thread but not the current article
