The architectural cleanliness issue is about "do we say this is hostname, because we used to use hostname" and "do (a number of) computers even have a hostname, in 2024, compared to when unison was written". The second one is whether this sync identifier is about the computer that the replica is attached to at the moment, or about the replica itself.
