I think it quite reasonable for a hosting provider to disconnect anyone who hasn't done anything for that long.  And my current provider isn't the only one that has done so.  It tok me a lot longer to get through all the props differences those first several attempts.  If unison is comparing/preparing changes locally and not pinging the server till the end, then a timeout is what I would expect.

Anyway, once I manually set the modes to be the same, I was able to finish the synch successfully.
