This is interesting, because in the case reported, both roots were in case-insensitive APFS local disks on MacOS.

Apple would be ancient history if they hadn't switched to this oS, but the mixture of case-sensitive binaries and case-insensitive apps is inconvenient.  I sometimes wish I had formatted all my disks to case-sensitive, but there would still be that inconvenient inconsistency.
