Well, after I have a working situation, I can do the RPM API port ;-).

The reason I took the 1.4.x branch (I also retrieved jwbernin-*) was
that someone (you?) on this list suggested last week that the 1.5.x
branch was (yet) incomplete and/or instable.

But ok, I'll give it a try.  You'll hear from me soon... ;-)
