I have snapshot 0.20021006 installed with far from a clean tree, with redhat
version 7.0 and above and all errata applied with no problems

I don't care either way.

The unclean tree/channel that fails for me (traceback during channel
build) is basically the original RH 6.2 RPM's plus the 6.2 errata. Does
that build for you? (If that's not enough detail for you to reproduce,
I'll give more detail later.)

BTW, I'm having another weird problem. Some of my machines had Red Hat
7.1 preloaded by Dell. They were later upgraded to 7.3. On these
machines, there's a weird problem involving the zebra and gated
packages. Namely, if gated is installed, up2date will uninstall gated
and install zebra, then the next run will uninstall zebra and install
gated, and the cycle repeats. (This is with up2date 2.8.) The machines
in question really don't need either package, but I thought I'd report
this problem anyway. (FWIW, the exact package versions are zebra-0.92a-3
and gated-3.6-14.)
