Mailing Lists

All,
   That proud day has come, when the current mailing list should split.

Now that we're hosted at tigris, we can (and are) taking advantage of
the various resources we have there. One is a rich set of mailing lists,
turned on for us by default.

So, please start subscribing to the mailing lists there. Sometime next
month, I'll work with Seth at Dulug (who has graciously provided this
email list for months) to properly have this list shut down. (And yeah,
I need to update the project file at freshmeat.net)

Anyway, we now have 5 mailing lists, dev, cvs, announce, issues, and
users.

I'll handle them in order of amount of mail:

cvs is the list to join to see automated messages from the cvs server.
Traffic can be very heavy, and is kinda boring unless you're REALLY
interested to see who broke what.

dev is where discussions about development of current will go on.

issues is similar to cvs, in that these are automated messages from the
issuezilla system. (why can't this be bugs? We're all adults here, and
current doesn't have any issues, its got BUGS.)

users, in the context of current, is going to be the people who admin
the current servers, not necessarily the people who all run up2date.
Documentation bugs, strange behaviour, feature requests from sane
people, etc can all go here. (Or you can populate issuezilla, I don't
care which)

annouce is going to be limited to actual releases. I haven't decided yet
if that will include development and snapshots - how say you?

If you prefer to use the naked smtp style yourself, try

where name is one of "dev", "cvs", "announce", "issues", and "users".

The web page is a little confusing - if all you want to do is subscribe
to the lists, there's no need to create an account for yourself. Only
people who want to contribute directly have to do that.


I've also populated the file area with the 1.4.x series and the 1.5.x
series (except 1.5.1, which appears to be missing for some reason).

If you have suggestions for how best to use our new hosted site, please
email me or the list (any of them, as owner I have to be on them all).
