Thanks for the info Aaron. It is funny that you mention the 2602W.
Right after I sent out the previous e-mail to the list, I went to
Microcenter in Atlanta and found this PCI/PCMCIA combo. I am in
business as far as the hardware goes. Unless there are anymore
gottchas', I guess I should be able to load and play with the tools.
Thanks for your help.

Hello Brad,

I went though this same thing a few months ago. I think that SMC2632 is
the best card to get, as I've found that it is the most sensitive. I've
compared the graphs in dstumbler to the SMC2632 with graphs of other
cards, and SMC2632 always has the highest signals from what I've found.
It is hard to find though. You can get it off of the internet, from
places like amazon.com or buy.com. It's a good idea to get the
SMC2602W, as it is basically just a PCI adapter with a 2632 PCMCIA card
in it. You can take the PCMCIA card out to use in a laptop, but you'll
have the choice to put it in a desktop later if you need to.

If you don't want an SMC2632, just pick any card that is on OpenBSD's
hardware compatibility list. You might need to enable some things in
the kernel before they will be automatically detected on boot. I can
tell you what they are if you need them, but I can't remember off the
top of my head right now.

The only other advice I have for you is to be sure to use the -o switch
with dstumbler. Without it, the wi driver locks up the system quite
often, at least in FreeBSD.

Best of luck.
Aaron

I am about to attempt the install of BSD air tools. I was hoping some
of you could tell me some hardware/software success stories about your
installs. Right now I have BSD 3.2 (for wnet) on a IBM Thinkpad 600E.
I am clueless about which PCMCIA Wireless Card to get. I keep hearing
SMC 2632W but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any of you have any
other suggestions? Any help, docs, references on BSD, or BSD AirTools,
would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
