Sveasoft & WRT54G Tx power rating

I'm a happy guy. Just put Sveasoft's Alchemy-6.0rc6a on my WRT54G v2.2
 
I'm already using the Linksys 7dBi high gain antenna. My question is: how high can I set the transmission power? The docs are deliberately vague: 48-64 mW recommended, mixed success reported using 84 mW.
 
I want to take advantage of the ability to use higher-than-factory-settings but don't want to harm the router or offend the FCC.
 
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
