    One has to ask if you¹ve already spent the money on an antenna¹s that
should greatly expand your range & performance why mess w/adjusting the mw
output?  If it ain¹t broke don¹t go breaking it.  I¹m actually using the
Alchemy firmware & have lowered the standard output since I have upgraded
5.5 db antennas.  If you¹re trying to cover a large area I¹d say placement
of the AP will make a huge difference.  I¹ve used settings as high as 100mw
or more(w/care to use a band that doesn¹t come close to overlapping other
AP¹s channels) w/no ill effect though I imagine in some units cranking up
the mw¹s might nuke or eventually shorten the life of the unit .  I¹m sure
that at 84mw & above noise & distortion might be a significant issue
especially in a crowded enviroment where most other AP is set to a default
channel of ³6² & your unit is just stepping all over that frequency.
Technically I don¹t believe you can play w/the default settings of the mw
output of the device & not be violating FCC code.  Again that¹s the
technicality the Linksys WRT54G was OK¹ed by the FCC at 28mw, I¹m sure they
had to jump through hoops to get the 7db antenna¹s approved.  Just use
common sense, use channels 1-11, & I would take it up to 50mw at the most if
you want to cover your whole block or something.  Enjoy
