RE: Wiring folks out there?

If you're going to run the wiring neatly (ie fished through the walls, etc) 
the biggest hang up may be the transition through the floor on the upstairs, 
and the transition through the ground floor into the basement - you're 
either going to have to drill to get the cable runs through, or find points 
where the piping goes through and squeeze it through in parallel.

An easier approch would be to run a single bundle from the basement to the 
crawlspace in the the 2nd floor ceiling (or attic if you actually have one), 
then from there fish it down inside the walls to each room. You could either 
install an outdoor conduit and run the cables fromt he basement, out and up, 
or if you can find where the piping etc goes through the floors and up, even 
better (that way everything stays inside).

2 notes of caution (1 goes without saying, but): 

1) Stay away from the electrical wiring with your CAT-5 runs.  Not just for 
safety, but if your runs are within 6" or so of AC wiring and run parallel 
to it for any length, the AC resonance can wreak havoc on data integrity.

2) You are running through walls in a residence. Do yourself (and your 
family) a favor and pay the extra for the Plenum.  It's worth it for safety.
