Re: Recommended PCMCIA Cards and Local Vendors

Yep, it's a Senao model, albeit 802.11b only. I've found this to NOT
really be a problem as it seems few networks are g-only. The sensitivity
really is amazing on the Senao Prism II (2 or 2.5) cards. Note that the
Prism 3 chipset based cards are good but not great.

I have a Senao NL-2511 EXT2 myself) with a 2db mini dipole clip on antenna.
If you intend to use a Senao as your day-to-day laptop wifi card, I
strongly suggest you get the integrated antenna version, as leaving the
mini dipole attached makes it very easy to bump or catch on something, and
putting the laptop away requires removing either the mini dipole or the
card+mini dipole. Alternatively, clipping and unclipping the mini dipole
each time you want to use wifi also isn't satisfactory because I doubt
these tiny mmcx connectors are meant for such frequent usage. I generally
use a Cisco 350 PCMCIA (integrated antenna) card for day-to-day stuff (it
has excellent performance and sensitivity, XP has the drivers built-in, the
integrated antenna is molded to the card...it's very sturdy. It's
available on ebay.) I use the Senao when I want to use an external antenna
or need its slightly better sensitivity.
