Re: Spam?

Well, in response to the accusations that spam is coming to this list
a lot more than any other would have to be misguided.  This mailing
list is about the only thing I use this address for, and I haven't
received any more spam on it since my participation started.

Granted, I don't reply to a lot, and I don't contribute a ton to the
list, but I have offered some responses, and yet don't seem to be
having any problems at all with Spam.  In 3 months, I have only 1
message listed as Spam in my gmail folders.  That's it.  No more, no
less.  I know I have replied to things in the past few weeks, as well
as several months ago when I setup this email address for the purpose
of using it in public forums.

While people don't like the idea of using a 'spamcatcher' email
address, I hate to say it, but it's pretty much the BEST and MOST
RECOMMENDED way to ensure that your normal email box isn't cluttered.

It also makes a lot of sense, if you think about it.  Subscribe to
your mailing lists using a threaded mailbox, such as gmail, use your
company email address for business only, and your ISP provided email
address for personal communications.  That's the best way to ensure
that you can:

Read all messages that are to you from friends without wading through
the crap that comes through mailing lists.

Not make the mistake of sending something to your boss that should
have gone to your spouse.

Ensure that your business email server doesn't get nailed with extra
spam because you used it in a public forum.

Heck, this is one of the first things I teach people about subscribing
to mailing lists.  I have done it since I first found a mailing list
back in the USENET days, and will continue to be the recommendation I
make until I get out of the internet business and never come back...
