Help need today (Sunday) with Netgear NR40B wireless router

I'm losing what's left of my hair trying to configure a Netgear El Cheapo to handle static IPs and am missing something obvious. Is there some kind soul that's used one of these things in an assigned address configuration that can do some phone support today? It's possible my ISP doesn't have routes in place correctly, but I can handle that part easily. Thanks for any help!
