Businessweek's patent on cluelessness

It seems Businessweek has published a successor to an article from
December 2003 which provoked critical letters to the editors by some
readers of this forum, including Jim Bessen:

The author is the same one IIRC and seems to have made some progress,
but not much.

He accuses lots of unspecified players of being unconstructive, while
he is woefully lacking in knowledge himself.

E.g. he claims that the directive, if passed, could have cut have unified
the EU patent system, thereby cutting patent application fees.  Also,
he doesn't seem to understand the territorial principle.

Maybe this is another good opportunity for writing letters to the editor.
