no, this shouldn't be the case.

currently the IMAP server is using a "self-signed certificate" for SSL/TLS
authentication.  perhaps this is a mis-configured IMAP server, and I did
something wrong, but Mozilla might have enough of a reson to not connect
to such a server.  though I would think it would give you the usual dialog
box questioning the validity of an SSL certificate, and ask you whether
you wish to proceed.  this is something I got in PINE.
