I was just talking to one of my friends in the Republic of Cambridge. She and her partner had hoped to be married in the religious, if not the legal sense, this May. Unfortunately, the controversy over gay marriage, not to mention the furor over the ordination of Gene Robinson, has caused the Episcopal Church to come down on clergy who officiate at commitment ceremonies. So now they have a caterer, a hall, and 100 guests coming, and they know that at the very least, if they can't have a wedding, they can have one hell of party. My friend Jenny went to a rally at the Statehouse in Boston yesterday, and it was a predictably outrageous scene. The Coalition for the Preservation of Marriage and the Catholic Church were busing in anti-gay supporters by the hundreds. Y'know, 'Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve', and 'My ass is a homo- free zone.' Shit like that. She said some groups have adopted yellow and black as their identifying colors. Many of them also wear yellow bandanas around their lower faces. crazy. The oddest group she saw was a bunch of guys in leather jackets and jeans, replete with armbands, calling themselves Fathers for Father's Rights. Purpose? Well, to preserve father's rights, which them gays are gonna take away, right? Oh, and the Catholic hierarchy is preaching about protecting children. Damn. I wish I was in Mass. Maybe I'll go next week. -x _______________________________________________ heads mailing list [email protected] http://ballistichelmet.org/mailman/listinfo/heads/ http://ballistichelmet.org/donate/
