If you use your vehicle on public roads, and the vehicle uses fuel, you are required to pay state, federal (and depending on where you live, county) road tax on that fuel. See ORS 319.520(4). Electric vehicles do /not/ pay these taxes, although there are movements afoot in at least California to up the registration fees to compensate. So you owe the tax whether or not you're using WVO, homebrew biodiesel or anything else like that. Call up ODOT and they'll get you the forms you need and be happy to explain everything. http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/CS/FTG/ (And in case anyone was wondering, the co-op does pay the taxes.) I believe the state legislature is considering changing this for ASTM spec biodiesel, but I doubt homebrewers or small producers will be included unless there is a major grassroots effort. -B
