Former DOE Courier to be sentenced today in ABQ for Manslaughter

Hello Members,

Many of you will recall that on December 31, 2004 Elton Richard 
caught someone in the act of trying to break into his vehicle parked 
outside his home.

A short chase ended in Richard shooting and killing the man. 
Initially charged with murder, Richard pleaded "no contest" to a 
manslaughter charge and will be sentenced today. He faces up to 9 
years in prison.

I occasionally use this situation in my CCW classes as an example of 
inappropriate use of deadly force. I share this with you with the 
hope that you will be able to file it in your mental Rolodex for 
future reference and consideration should you ever be in a similar 
situation.
