HB <http://legis.state.nm.us/lcs/_session.asp?chamber=H&type=++&number=588&year =07> 588 and SB <http://legis.state.nm.us/lcs/_session.asp?chamber=S&type=++&number=111&Subm it=Search&year=07> 111 change New Mexico law to allow Concealed Handgun Licensees to carry in businesses that sell liquor for off-premises consumption. Currently, carrying a firearm into the local food store, drug store and stop-and-rob that sells liquor is a FOURTH-DEGREE FELONY. Both of these bills have passed their respective chambers, but could be DOA due to procedural red tape. Please forward this to anyone you think might be interested in seeing this important legislation pass. Frank This was posted this morning by Steve Aikens: "New Mexico [3/16] - 6AM! HB 588 was reported to the Senate Floor last night around 8pm. It now must pass the Senate Floor. We have today and tomorrow morning to get that done. Unfortunately, Rep. Al Park, Chairman of House Judiciary, has stated he's not holding any more hearings. That kills SB111 which is being heard in House Business & Industry this morning before the Floor session. HB 588 and SB111 are tied together. If the House doesn't hear SB111 at least through the assigned committees, they are unlikely to hear the house bill. After all this work, both could die. Contact House Judiciary Chairman Al Park at 505-986-4411 and tell him you want him to schedule HB 588 to be heard in his committee. SB 39 has also been referred to the House Judiciary Committee by House Consumer & Public Affairs with no recommendation. YOU MUST GET ON THOSE PHONES NOW! Most importantly for SB 39, contact House Judiciary Chairman Al Park at 505-986-4411 and tell him you want him to schedule SB 39 to be heard in his committee."
