The project being advocated is designed to produce strictly GPL-v3'd education software that is also available outside of the particular platform described. I am a long-time FOSS developer and advocate ... 15 years now. What I am advocating is something new, but not, I hope, something at-odds with GNU philosophy. In fact, I have thought long and hard about this particular model and how not to offend my colleagues in the open source education software community. I am interested to fix any holes in my scheme, though, so could you elaborate on where I could be mistaken?
