Re: [needs proofread & translation] DMA one year review

This is a "first minute" response to your last minute request.  I have very
little to suggest, mostly some corrections of English usage.  Whoever
drafted and reviewed this did a much better job than is usual in FSFE news
items.

1.  "In our input to the European Commission’s public consultation we
welcome the DMA as a milestone in regulating large tech corporations but we
stress the hurdles and challenges for making Device Neutrality a reality."
Insert a comma after "corporations."  English grammar.

2.  "We got involved since the very beginning, paving the way for Free
Software to be considered a central topic in the DMA enforcement."

(a)  I suggest replacing "since" with "from."  English usage.

(b)  Remove the second "the" (before "DMA")  English usage.

3.  "With the DMA, big tech is no longer exempt of keeping European
citizens and consumers in lock-ins, hampering interoperability and denying
software freedom."  I suggest rewriting, replacing "exempt of keeping"
with "may no longer keep."  Other rewritings are possible.  The problem is
two-fold.  First, English usage requires "exempt from" rather than "exempt
of."  But more important, "exempt" is the wrong word.  To exempt is to free
from an obligation or liability.  Big tech was not subject to the
obligations imposed by the DMA until the DMA came into force.

3.  "and contributed to formal complaint defending the right to uninstall
apps in Android."  Insert "a" before "formal."  English grammar (although I
cannot specify a rule that says why an article is necessary here).

4.  "Not only big tech has been trying to hinder the law by any means"
Rewrite "big tech has" as "has big tech."  English usage.

5.  "we have kept a closer look on how the European Commission has been
implemented the law."

(a)  Replace "closer" with "close."  There is no comparison described.

(b)   Remove "been" English grammar.

6.  "The FSFE insists that interoperability must not be reduced to a
request-based process but should be interoperability by design, open,
transparent, and free of gatekeeper discretion."  I suggest replacing the
comma after "design" with a colon.  The sentence as it stands is not wrong,
but I like my somewhat restructured version better.

7.  "the EU Commission should not allow gatekeepers to impose restrictive
and unnecessary burdens to smaller and Free Software developers."  Replace
the second occurrence of "to" (after "burdens") with "on."  English usage.
