There are tons of web pages about learning the basics of Unix
and I recently looked around for some good ones to include in
this section of my Power Pine page:

I recommend that you look at that section and follow the links
that I'm collecting there. At this point I don't know of one
really good one for you Beartooth, but if I do find one, I'll
let you know. And hopefully someone else will post links to a
good starting point "with *theory* in it"!
A possibility is one of these books: "The Unix Philosophy" or
"Linux and the Unix Philosophy", which are both by Mike Gancarz.
I bought the first one in 1994 when it was published and liked
it. I just this moment discovered the second one, which was
published in 2002. Since you have a philosophical bent
Beartooth, maybe you should check out one or both of these books!
