Those who feed of the society by creating artificial monopolies might 
eat less, but everyone else would eat better.

You mentioned intellectual property, Les. It's a legal idea. That's 
where it comes from. It was created by manmade law. It didn't come from 
nature. No other animal has it. Even man didn't have it until quite 
recently in our history.

People could believe in common decency and respect for the work and 
abilities of others could but still come to the the conclusion that 
monopolies on ideas should be abolished. From my point of view, these 
ideas coexist far better than the current system.

I believe that the fact that you are a beneficiary of the current system 
gives you a bias. Do you also believe that the recent extension of 
copyrights is going to generate more creativity for society because 
people who would not have otherwise created ideas will now do so because 
their heirs can benefit for an additional 20 years after their deaths 
than they would have before the extension was enacted?
