Finally, that is the point.  It should not be precluded.  As for your
university requiring a particular software package you need to talk to
them about that.  Maybe you should be talking to your elected
representatives.  They are the ones that empower schools and
universities to function.  But then you should be in contact with them
about the whole DRM crap anyways.
