That is correct.  How do we trust software which can do things 
secretly, and even against our wishes?  Call me crazy if you like; 
but I'm rather uncomfortable with giving a corporation the ability 
to have unfettered access to all of my software, data, and personal 
work.  When using closed software, these things are not merely 
hypothetical possibilities; because they have been documented to 
have happened already on numerous occasions with numerous guilty 
companies.  Few people realize the power which is commonly and 
blindly given to software producers.  Open software is much less 
risky.  Any moderately used open application will be peer reviewed 
by other competent programmers in all regions of the world.  
Therefore, malicious elements in open programs tend to get exposed 
quickly and loudly.  They tend to be fixed equally as fast.  Why 
use a computer for anything if you cannot even trust it?  This is 
basic stuff, and yet most people seem to miss it.
