That is funny you should say that, last week i was joking how i needed the thank 
Microsoft for their quality control process, it enabled me to have my best week 
of business yet with almost 5 grand in billable hours because of blaster and all 
that fun stuff that came down the pipe at the same time, hell one of the systems 
we rebuilt for one customer got reinfected faster than we could update it 
online, this made it really easy to sell a firewall to a customer who otherwise 
wouldnt have understood the threat or the value to such a thing.

We have two full windows to linux migrations we are doing for companies this 
month, one of which we have microsoft directly to thank. the last round of 
windows updates for NT broke RAS and basically knocked these guys completely out 
of commission. the owner when confronted with reinstalling NT4 and all his apps 
or upgrading to 2000 or xp was not to happy, luckily he did the updates and not 
me! One of the software vendors that the use to run their business recommended 
reinstalling all of their desktop systems and while i was talking to them i 
found out their recommended platform of deployment was linux. i was beyond happy 
upon hearing this and told the vendor to hold on and tell this to the owner of 
the business.

That is another reason i really need to start sending bill gates xmas cards.
I just keep forgetting to add him to the list what with all the updating of 
windows systems and all who has the time to do xmas cards anymore.

I just wander how many virus's he has had sent his way via his own child, aka 
outlook. I just wrote an article for our website were i talk about the end of 
windows and the resulting hardware shortage when the new blended threat comes 
around, some of you might find it interesting.

This is a genuine fear of mine too. it never happened to apple though and they 
have been around just as long as windows and never been exploited like windows. 
talked to a guy at merryl lynch about this just today.
I tend to think that people attack windows cause there isnt much else you can do 
with it since you cant get under the hood.

your left to vandalize the system cause you cant do anything else with it.

With linux since you can not only open the hood you can go into the belly of the 
beast and see all of the c code that the systems are comprised of the reason 
people dont attack it is cause once you open the hood you get that far into it 
there is so much you can do vandalizing it doesnt have the same attraction, 
perhaps you get distracted by all the gizmo's and gadgets that linux offers.
This is however just a guess.

I would have to say if we do see a rash of linux virus's and exploits come out i 
would expect them to get fixed completely where with windows its band-aid after 
band-aid onto bad code bases.

or you could just cron the update process as many debian admins does.
