I was successful in getting Linux into a local Charter School and am in
the process of promoting it for other Charter Schools in North Carolina.
I used Linux for the server side operations (It's strongest suit), and
for the firewall and web server - It took several months of dealing
with both the schools immediate directors and with the schools board of
executives to convey the cost savings in using the server side.

Open source products like Apache, Squid, DansGaurdian, Samba helped to
integrate the varied Microsoft OS's and applications in use. I got them
to use StarOffice/OpenOffice - showed them the compatibility - End
result is they are still functioning and this is the schools 4th year
(and the 3rd year of their Linux environment) -

My wife and I assisted the school in writing their Technology Plan -
which does include the use of other OS's and Linux on the Desktop.

One step - One dollar at a time...

Thanks,
Mark
